BMW Transfer Case Investigation

Heber Han PC is investigating a reported problem with transfer cases in certain 2019 to 2025 BMW models.  A transfer case moves power from the transmission of a vehicle to the axles in all-wheel-drive vehicles.  Problems with transfer cases in certain all-wheel drive BMW models may be caused by a defect. However, consumers may have to pay out of pocket for testing to determine if their car has a problem with the transfer case, and they may have to pay for transfer case fluid changes or to replace transfer cases if their cars are out of warranty.

Consumers report that symptoms of transfer cases problems may include shuddering or jerking when driving at low speeds, especially when accelerating or turning. Consumers also report that the cost to replace transfer cases can exceed $10,000.

A transfer case problem may affect the 2019 to 2025 models of the following vehicles:

  • X3, X4, X5, X6, X7
  • 3 Series Sedan
  • 5 Series Sedan
  • 7 Series Sedan
  • 8 Series Convertible, Coupe, and Gran Coupe
  • 640i xDrive Gran Turismo
